A model for the reduction of the turbulent energy redistribution by compressibility

چکیده

Compressibility may strongly reduce the redistribution of turbulent kinetic energy. The question of how such effects can be taken into account in turbulence models is addressed here. First, a corresponding stochastic turbulence model is developed on the basis of a simplification of the generalized Langevin model for turbulent velocities. This model is then reduced to a deterministic model that extends existing methods by the consideration of structural compressibility effects. Combined with stochastic models for scalars, these velocity models may be used for compressible turbulent reacting flow simulations where the consideration of chemical reactions does not require approximations. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. Numerical Simulation of Separation Bubble on Elliptic Cylinders Using Three-equation k-? Turbulence Model

Occurrence of laminar separation bubbles on solid walls of an elliptic cylinder has been simulated using a recently developed transitional model for boundary layer flows. Computational method is based on the solution of the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations and the eddy-viscosity concept. Transitional model tries to simulate streamwise fluctuations, induced by freestream turbulen...

Numerical simulation of nanofluid flow over diamond-shaped elements in tandem in laminar and turbulent flow

In this paper, the Al2O3-water nanofluid flow in laminar and turbulent flows inside tubes fitted with diamond-shaped turbulators is numerically modeled. The nanofluid flow is modeled by employing a two-phase mixture method and applying the constant heat flux boundary condition at tube walls. In the results, the effects of different parameters such as the geometry of turbulators, volume fraction...

Stepped Spillway Performance: Study of the Pressure and Turbulent Kinetic Energy versus Discharge and Slope

In the present study, flow over flat and pooled stepped spillways was simulated three dimensionally. The VOF method and k- ε (RNG) turbulent model was used to simulate the flow over the stepped spillway. The results indicated that the numerical model was acceptably capable of simulating the flow over the pooled and flat stepped spillways for different discharges. Following that, the effect of d...

Three-dimensional characteristic approach for incompressible thermo-flows and influence of artificial compressibility parameter

In this paper the characteristics of unsteady three-dimensional incompressible flows with heat transfer are obtained along with artificial compressibility of Chorin. At first, compatibility equations and pseudo characteristics for three-dimensional flows are derived from five governing equations (continuity equation, Momentum equations in three directions, and energy equation) and then results ...

Thermohydrodynamic Characteristics of Journal Bearings Running under Turbulent Condition

A thermohydrodynamic (THD) analysis of turbulent flow in journal bearings is presented based on the computational fluid dynamic (CFD) techniques. The bearing has infinite length and operates under incompressible and steady conditions. In this analysis, the numerical solution of Navier-Stokes equations with the equations governing the kinetic energy of turbulence and the dissipation rate, couple...
